K-Taping therapy is a taping technique helpful in the prevention and rehabilitation of injuries. It originated in the 70's in Japan thanks to its inventor Dr. Kenso Kaze. Then this technique arrives to Germany in early 2000, which became popular worldwide.
It consists in applying a bandage called K-Tape which acts exteroceptors level that are a rapidly adapting receptors found in the skin, which provide information to the nervous system and the musculoskeletal system. This will achieve changes in motor control on the muscle and thus provide stability, reduce pain, allow better lymphatic drainage, etc., depending on the objective to seek treatment.
3) What is K-Tape bandage?
The K-Tape is a 100% cotton fabric, flexible, porous (to facilitate the evaporation of transpiration) and water resistant. The acrylic adhesive is free of latex, therefore is hypoallergenic and excellent quality (which allows great durability). This type of dressing is manufactured and tested in Germany exclusively. Its durability along with proper application technique allows this dressing last for days or even weeks. It is recommended change it every few days for a receptors habituation. To achieve a motor learning and thereby level morphological changes of neurons needed 15 to 20 days, which amounts to 2 to 3 applications.
There bandages of different colors and it has to do with Feng Shui (of Japanese origin), where lighter colors are used preferably to inhibit overactive muscles and darker colors are to activate.
3) ¿Qué es el vendaje K-Tape?
It can be applied in a wide range of musculoskeletal problems such as instabilities and joint pain, tendinopathy, edema, bruises and scars.
This technique has its origins in the sport but now is used in all kinds of people, from children to seniors.
The locations and conditions are varied so only appoint some: shoulder: impingement and supraspinatus anterior dislocation; knee: anterior cruciate ligament injury, collateral, meniscus and patellofemoral dysfunction; Ankle sprain acute and chronic; foot: fasciitis, heel spurs , flatfoot and hallux valgus (bunion); column: lumbar pain syndrome (discopathies and fascetario syndrome); elbow: golfer and tennis; wrist: carpal tunnel syndrome; tendinitis: biceps, achilles and patellar; tears and strains in general; osteoarthritis in general; wounds: keloids, hypertrophic scars or attached; lymphatic drainage: lymphedema, post mastectomy cancer and mammaplasty in plastic surgery.
Yes, also serves to correct postural problems spine, knee and shoulder. The course of action is stimulating the contracted muscle fascia and muscle chains activating or inhibiting very inhibited or overactive. It is also used to prevent muscle fatigue and thereby prevent such muscle tears or inflammation in the tendons.
6) ¿Tiene otras aplicaciones?
- Scars active.
- Parchment skin eg: in cases of neurodermatitis or psoriasis.
- Pectoral zone, uterine and sacred in the first 3 months of pregnancy.
In all applications, the patient must first inform the anticoagulant drug consumption as small hemorrhages in the skin of heart patients can have adverse effects such as pruritus (itching) or formation of vesicles (blisters).
For the cotton tape may be detached from the sheet, the backing sheet is sprayed with silicone. Although in very small quantities, may remain traces of silicone glue. Moreover, generally, in the tapes are used to make more tolerable silicones for skin, however, some people react to the silicone with a slight redness of the skin.
8) What is the mode of application?
Like any medical treatment, your application should be made by doctors or therapists who have completed the course of K-Taping bandage. This is because you must be very knowledgeable in the fields of anatomy, biomechanics, physiology, etc., not to cause harm as dizziness or vomiting neurovegetative in your application or request further cervical pain and instability due to incorrect joint application for example. Also, this technique is a treatment tool, not a substitute, it is a supplement that allows improvements to be achieved in this last longer.
8) ¿Cuál es el modo de aplicación?
